I don't get much chance to pick my camera up at the moment, and after 3 years on 365 I don't feel the need to take a shot every day, more when the mood or circumstance takes me.
I am keen to stay involved on 365, so I picked a number between 1 and 3 and then another number between 1 and 52. Then I chose a photo from the corresponding year and week and posted a shot that I never posted at the time.
This butterfly ws taken last May at Symonds Yat Butterfly Farm whilst on holiday. I remember that it rained so hard that the car park flooded!
The texture in the front wing really pops in this black and white version so I would be hard pushed to choose which one I liked best as I love the colour in the other version! I agree with you about staying a part of this community and I don't feel the need to take a shot everyday. I like your thinking!! Symonds Yat takes me back to when I was a kid, camping there with the Brownies and going there with the school, learning to roll over in a kayak safely. Not that adventurous now!
Interesting how the b&w really makes the shapes stand out, particularly the proboscis(?) and legs. Although the colours are gorgeous I like this one a lot.
I do like this, the edit brings more detail than the other colour one, Sean. Fav. Agree with you re posting when one has something to share, and it feels right.
Not afraid to take risks with your processing Sean, I like that! To post a shot of a butterfly in b&w is so bold! Its the colours that most people love. Well done ... I think its fabulous! So clear it really jumps out of the page at me! Fav!
@yrhenwr Thank you David, I have posted a few butterflys in B+W shots over the last few years. I always think they look good, but then I have a slightly rebellious streak, a bit like your own good self.
I do like your idea of rendering a butterfly b&w. They are often so colourful we don't get to appreciate the beautiful patterning on the wings to the full - a b&w enables that. The detailing on the foremost wing is lovely too.
So a strong "Sean" image -- even in nature you are able to use b&w to bring out such wonderful shapes and textures. I like this. Must get back to work but will return later to your album. I can't believe all I've missed.
