Hanging Around!

22 - 30 Days Wild

I didn't know it before but these little green insects are called Shieldbugs, probably due to their strong armour. I watched this little fella as he crawled around my fading aquiligia and took quite a lot of photos. The reason I settled on this one was because 1) It looked cool that he was just hanging upside down with no effort at all and, 2) if you zoom in you can see the spiracles on his abdomen. These are the tiny holes essential to his respiratory system and although I learnt about then many moons ago during biology lessons, I've never seen them for real. Fascinating!
Great capture. For a reason unbeknown to me I called these bugs Oscar. Even though I know that they are shield bugs the name remains.

@wakelys Haha I only found out that these are called Shieldbugs today when I looked it up. Oscar is definitely a better name for them and one I'm more likely to remember.

@grammyn @jamibann @bkbinthecity thank you for taking a look and commenting. I'm becoming braver at getting close to creepy crawlies just for a photo 😆
