Another dull day followed by rain. This is The Primrose stone which sits beside the river Eden at Appleby. It is one of 10 benchmark sculptures along the length of the river Eden and was sculpted by an artist called Joss Smith. The East Cumbria Countryside Project was commissioned to create a series of ten site-specific, carved stone sculptures which also function as seats, situated on public paths along the length of the The River Eden from its source at Mallerstang to where it joins the sea at Rockcliffe, just north of Carlisle. The project involved ten different artists and was commissioned to mark the new Millennium.
@bruni@tunia I would like to visit some more of the benchmark stones. They are spread out over a quite a distance. I will have to talk nicely to hubby for some Sunday rides out when the cropping is finished.
It just makes you want to sit in it. A great memorial for the millennium and I like the weathering. Look forward to seeing some more of these interesting sculptures.
