Bit short of ideas for a shot today so thanks to Chantal's (Shepherdman's Wife) wonderful shot of her Chinese lanterns, I decided to have a look at my own. Although mine does not have any snow on I still liked the intricate lace pattern on the seed skeleton. Thank you Chantal for the inspiration
I have seen these before and never knew the name of them!! I am going to see if I can plant them here. I love them!! Love the heart shape of the skeleton and how the seed is about where the heart would be!! Totally awesome color too!! Instant FAV!
@cashew They are quite a striking plant I took a picture in autumn of them before they became skeletons. There botanical name is Physalis alkekengi If you would like a look here is the link to my last picture http://365project.org/shirleybankfarm/365/2015-10-06
They certainly are beautiful. fav. I had some in our little garden and they just took over killing other plants for the room. we had t get rid of them, but do like to see them here and there. @cashew Kathy, this plant is lovely, but beware. they take over.
These are so pretty Shirley. I love the skeleton on the outside surrounding that orange 'lantern' in the centre. Would these grow in pots, do you think?
@milaniet@bkbinthecity@bruni@flowerfairyann Thank you for your lovely comments. Bruni I did not know they were and invasive plant. Anne I intend to grow mine in a large pot, I just got it in autumn last year so haven't taken it out of the pot it came in yet.
