Askham Hall by shirleybankfarm

Askham Hall

I won a raffle prize of a voucher for admission to the gardens, with a drink and piece of cake in the cafe, at Askham hall. Askham Hall became a residence of the Lowther family in the 1830s. The 7th Earl of Lonsdale used it as his home after Lowther Castle was dismantled and closed in 1937. We were a little late in the year for the gardens to be at their best but we had a limited time to use the voucher and of course summer is not a good time on a farm to be having days off. The top left is a view of the Hall from the grounds, top right, is one of two Griffins in the courtyard. These originally marked the entrance to Lowther Castle and were moved by the 7th Earl when the castle was closed.
The sign in the middle left amused me because how could it be a 'Secret Path' with two sign post pointing the way? It was however a lovely walk around the outside of the garden with some interesting plants and flowers. The next three were a couple of flowers which took my eye and some lovely bark on a Silver birch tree. The flower in the middle right reminded me of the bottle brush in Australia. The bottom left was covered by bees.
I am so far behind with my comments on your wonderful pictures once again, I do intend to have a look at them soon but will be unable to comment on them all, but would like you to know I really enjoy seeing the interesting things you all find to capture and reading the interesting information.
Nice collage & interesting info.

@dizzyd @maggiemae @gijsje @onewing @tonydebont @elmay @peterlgrave @deborah63 @hermann @pyrrhula Thank you all for taking the time to comment and fav this shot. I was delighted when it got to the PP. Debbie the house is not open for general viewing as it is a hotel and function venue. It's rather funny because the day after we'd been here we got an invite to a 50th birthday party which is to be held in one of the function room here.
