In Their Own Words

I know I promised that today's entry would be more lighthearted, but I figured with the theme for the past few days I'd like some other people weigh in. Above is the plaque on the prison wall from yesterdays picture. This plaque was put up by the Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society. Although as mentioned before this prison was a political prison and not a POW camp.

Next to this plaque is another one erected by the government calling this wall a historical site. In all honesty I wanted to show that one, but it's a metal plaque with orange writing on it so hard to make out clearly. It basically said that during the beginning of the Japanese occupation (1895-1945), many people revolted against them and when caught were housed in this prison, and they were not treated very well. It also mentions that the prison walls were made from stones from the old Taipei city walls, and from stones from the stone quarries in northern Taipei. Oh and that the prison was completed in 1910.

Alright, tomorrow I am hoping to have a picture of a very boisterous celebration that is taking place, however the timing may conflict with a previous engagement. here's hoping for your sake and mine that we have some happier pictures going up in the future.
