Hypocrisy At Work

Every Taiwanese person seems to have this view that spitting in street is vulgar. It's made even worse by "taiwanese fact" that "in china every chinese person spits on the street. it's to disgusting." They seem to forget that Taiwanese streets are covered with an even worse form of spit.

A big thing in Taiwan is what we call here in English, betel nut. Betel nut is a tiny hard green nut (technically it's not a nut at all), with a red juicy seed inside. It is a stimulant, which provides a similar kick to that of coffee. A slight cut is made and then people put the nut in their mouth, and eventually bite down on the seed when sends red juice flooding your mouth.

The shell and the inner fur are spit onto the street, and eventually when the seed and juice loses it's kick, it is spit out as well. this means that the streets are covered with green shells, red fur, and splotches of juice. Trust me it's even more disgusting that how it sounds.

The picture above shows what a normal street looks like. You can make out some of the green shells and a lot of the red fur. The rain washed away a lot of the juice. Which is fortunate cause it does stain if left alone. I know that it's a disgusting sight, but hey, it's the real Taiwan. Also the green and red make it seem very suitable for christmas.
