Taiwan

The real reason I was at the park on this day was because I was hoping to see that the hedge maze was still there. From time to time it's a nice place to go and get lost. I was worried that with the flower expo there they might have destroyed the maze, but thankfully it's still standing.

The maze is in the shape of a large octagon. It has ten entrance/exit points. If you go in and just follow along, you're pretty much guaranteed to come out at the next exit point. The true challenge is going in one entrance and trying to come out the exit that is furthest away.

Whenever I'm here I can't help but feel like this kind of mimics Taiwan. If you just blindly do something you'll come out the nearest exit. When you suggest people to try and come out the furthest exit away, they will just say "Why?" Taiwanese culture instills beliefs of just going with the crowd and giving up the burden of free thought.

Fortunately or unfortunately people are starting to see that being like this does not guarantee success and in fact more and more of their rights are being taken away. Also there are more and more people here both foreigners and taiwanese who are pushing Taiwan to improve itself. Hopefully one day everybody in Taiwan will be the type of person who pushes to try and get out the furthest exit.
