The Destination

Here is the destination of my long walking journey. It is Bitan scenic area. It's pretty much the last part of this river before it exits the city and is off through the mountains. As you can see in the picture it's a popular place for peddle boats and canoeing.

Since it's at the end of the subway line, it's a popular place on the weekends for people who want to get out of the city, yet stay in the city. On the weekends this small part of the river is covered with boats. Most of them are peddle boats where you can see the girl is tired from peddling and the guy is upset for doing all the work. This is not a place to go if you want to see happy couples.

To the right are some cliffs where people have been known to do cliff jumping but i have never seen it, and the area has some things up to try and stop it. On each side of the river are some touristy restaurants and cafes. I once had a nice time with some friends in one of the cafes just looking at the river and seeing the people float by.

In fact my first experience with Taiwanese style bbq'ing was on a small field next to the river with a friend and some of her classmates. i remember trying desperately not to hide my disappointment that a Taiwanese bbq was not the same type of food as a western bbq. Completely my fault for expecting the wrong thing, but it was when i first arrived in Taiwan, and after a few months of Taiwanese food, I allowed my mind to dream too much of a bbq.

I took this picture from a small footbridge which straddles the river. after this picture was taken, I crossed over to the other side of the river and started the long walk back home.
