"Cunt Examination".......Hospital's Words, Not Mine

If you know me at all, than you will know that by far my favorite word in the whole world is the "C" word. This is because with how casual we curse in the west, it remains the one word that actually has any power when said. Granted this is only for America, and one of the joys of living in a country with many people from the UK and Australia is getting to hear the word used just as commonly and nonchalantly as saying the word "table."

On the other hand, i somewhat envy the Taiwanese. They curse like drunk sailors in English, but in Chinese they would rather jump off the roof than say a dirty word. Their dirty words actually have power and can cause an emotional and physical reaction. And of course me being a hero, i and other foreigners have taken it upon ourselves to strip these words of their power.

I must admit it is a guilty pleasure to say a word to somebody in Chinese and watch their face jerk and then blush, even though they say that word themselves 20 times a day in English. It's also astounding when after awhile they become numb to that word because you've said it so much. So that's me, fighting for equality among the languages. In the future when no Chinese word has any power, you'll know who to thank. I'm willing to pose now for my future statues.

Tying this all together, the picture above is from the local library, notifying you which types of books are on that shelf. I mentioned before about the hilarity of bad translations. It's a simple mistake to make, looking up a word and it gives you some choices in English and you choose the wrong one. Actually Taiwanese are lucky, they can only choose the wrong word, while in Chinese even after i choose the right word, i could say it with the wrong tone and mean something else. I'm notorious for saying the word "sperm" when I'm trying to say the word for "fragile" because I mess up the tones.

As for the title. That was the holy grail of mistranslations. At a hospital on the wall instead of saying "OB/GYN" it said "Cunt Examination." Sigh I still tear up when thinking about it, it's as if they did it just for me.
