You Are What You Eat

There is a reason why I look like a brick house, it's because I eat food bricks.

I mentioned yesterday that Taiwan doesn't really have frozen foods, well it also doesn't really have refrigerated foods as well. No lunch meats or anything like that. So this means that people don't really store food.

On the one hand this is great, because it means people cook everyday, or they eat out all the time and the food is uh..."fresh." but on the other hand it means the food that people do store is mainly things like chips, cookies, and other unhealthy snacks.

But of course sometimes you don't always have the time to go out, so how do I store food? Well you are looking at it. The above picture is food from a buffet that I stuffed in a take out box. Sometimes when out at lunch i'll get two meals, and the stick one in the fridge and microwave it when it's time for dinner.

Maybe sounds unappetizing, but it's basically what most buffets and lunch box places do, they make new food each day and what is not eaten at lunch, they save and reheat later on. if you are at all curious, the middle foods in this brick are "dou gan" (basically tofu) and thinly sliced peppered pork. I think it's pretty clear what the vegetables are.

Every time i plop one of these on my plate, i think an the routine of an American comic who was complaining about KFC's "food bowl." And i couldn't agree more. A food bowl is so foul, but a food brick, that is class!"

Editor's Note: I am not at all built like a brick house, despite how much time I spend flexing in the mirror.
