Siesta by taiwandaily

Siesta

There is a picture I've been wanting to get, but i'm giving up on it now. It's a picture of an office and every worker is sleeping with their head on their desk. Unfortunately while this is a common sight, it seems I'm never out at the right time of day to get this picture.

Regardless, in Taiwan, lunch break is always nap time. Some people will have lunch and then nap for the rest of their break, while others will just skip lunch and nap the whole time. As for where they nap, well they just put their heads down on their desks and sleep. It's not uncommon to be walking on the street during lunch break and in every office or even store, see workers with their heads on their desks sleeping.

The hardest of hardcore are the construction workers who will usually just lay down on the side of the road, in front of their construction site.

When I first came to Taiwan and brought all my western baggage with me, I thought it was inappropriate and lazy to nap at work, especially at your desk. However after being here awhile, I realize just how smart it is. Especially given that most workers have to work 12 hours or more a day. Gotta get that rest in when you can.
