Just Can't Quit Taiwan by taiwandaily

Just Can't Quit Taiwan

One shame of mine is that in these nine years since I left america, i haven't lived in any country other than Taiwan. My plan was always to be here for one or two years, and then go to another country for a year or two, etc. But during my time here I've gotten very involved in the country and people, and it's made it very hard to leave. Although I have had some very nice job offers from around the world, and I do sometimes sit and daydream about what my life would be like if I had taken one of those jobs.

To add a bit of insult to injury, in Taiwan it can be easy to meet people who are living this life. Meaning they have lived and worked in many different countries. I have one close friend who has taught English in several countries around the world. I used to be quite jealous, but now I view him as my own private tester. That i can learn about what the job and life really is like there and then decide if it's something I'd want to do one day or not.

The unique thing about him is that he always ends up in Taiwan. He will go to live in some country for about half a year, and then come back to Taiwan for half a year, and so on. It shows just how hard it is to leave Taiwan, because he has invested so much time in learning Chinese and other aspects of Taiwanese culture (mostly religious) that he always comes back.

Well today he left Taiwan yet again, so today's picture is in honor of him. Yesterday he had a bit of get together for a tasting of his "raw pie." He has a bit of a delicate stomach, so it's hard for him to eat out, as such he's become quite the cook. His specialty is this 100% organic, sugar free, gluten free, no bread, fruit pie. It's quite tasty, but I'll keep his exact recipe a secret in case he wants to sell his pies in the future. As even though he has plans to go to two different countries, knowing him he'll be back in Taiwan in eight months.

So doesn't that just prove that I made the right choice and don't need to leave Taiwan as even a world traveler is always coming back to Taiwan? For my sake, please agree...
With every choice you make, there is a road you didn't take and a "What if..." that will inevitably follow. Sounds like you are where you are supposed to be - home.
P.S. That pie looks fabulous!
