Revisiting

One obvious reason for learning Chinese is so I can learn more about Taiwan, it's people, culture, history. For awhile at least I thought I was missing out on a lot since I don't speak the language. However as the years went by I had just been here long enough that I felt myself a master of Taiwanese culture and history despite not knowing the language.

Learning Chinese has taught me that there is still much about Taiwan that I have yet to learn. It also makes me recall the places I went and the things I did and what it would be like to go back and see it again through eyes that can read Chinese.

The picture above is of one such thing. There is a "228 park" which is a memorial to the events of the 228 massacre. In it is this story of 228. I'd always been curious of how exactly they spoke of this subject in a park that is visited by all types of people for many years. I'd always wanted to go back and take a look.

Thankfully I found that I had a picture of it, so that saves me the trip. But looking at this picture just reminds me of all the other places I want to revisit. It's a very daunting task to go back to all those places though. So we'll see if I actually do it.
