It Was A Different Time...

Let's put some things out there. I don't like fast food. Yes I do like a good burger, but of course you are not getting a good burger at a fast food place. But there was a time in Taiwan not too long ago where your only choice was Mcdonald's.

As ashamed as I am to admit it, I remember a trip I took to Hong Kong, and being so excited by there being a Burger King there. That double cheese burger tasted like it was straight from heaven. Yes I understand that i was following the cliche of Americans traveling to foreign lands and eating fast food from back home, but for me that Burger King wasn't just some fast food place, it was a gift from god.

It wasn't soon after that, that Burger Kings started popping up around Taiwan. This was still before the advent of dedicated burger restaurants here, so a Burger King burger was still magical. I remember there was one specific branch my friends I would go to, simply because the bacon on their burgers was always crispy.

But of course over time there became many Burger Kings and they lost the luster. Better still "real" burger restaurants became popular here. While still not ideal, they beat a fast food burger any day.

All meaning that it had been years since i had a fast food burger. That changed when I found some coupons in the mail from Burger King. Buy one, get one free, was just too tempting to give up. And yes, it wasn't nearly as good as it was back when it was the only thing around. Which is probably a great thing for my heart. But still I have to thank them for being there back when there really was nothing else. While I may have outgrown you, you will still be a part of me.
