Dream Achieved

As you can no doubt conclude from today's picture, recently it was the moon festival. If you recall from past entries, moon festival is a time when people get together to BBQ on the street in from of their house or business.

You may also recall that this holiday always upsets me as it is a reminder of how poor my chinese is and how little i've improved. In the past when walking along the street and seeing so many people bbq, i had wished i could stop and talk with them in chinese and essentially invite myself to have some of their food. And i always made a pledge with myself that i would study chinese so that this time next year i would be able to talk my into having strangers' food. Of course i was too busy so i never studied and the next year I would be upset at myself for not making any progress.

Well no more, now that I have been a full time student, my chinese is good enough to be able to join a strangers bbq! So where are the pictures, you ask? Well just because i am now confident in my chines that i can do it, doesn't mean i actually did do it. In fact i don't like to join events like that because I always end up being asked thousands of questions by everybody there. I get it that i'm a foreigner and they are so curious about many things. But instead of being a conversation, it always ends up feeling more like an interrogation.

So instead I just ate at home while enjoying the fact that now my Chinese is actually good enough that not having bbq is a choice.

The picture is from a friend who is running a B&B out of a very traditional chinese style home. I believe I've talked about their place before, if not, than I will definitely make a post about it in the future.
