Olive Backed Sunbird

Day 9 - Mission Beach, Far North Queensland

Really thrilled to catch this male Olive Backed Sunbird in the caravan park at Mission Beach, FNQ although I didn't know that is what is was at the time.

I was actually waiting for a cassowary and this little fellow just happened along so I grabbed a quick shot or two and continued my wait. I should have spent more time with him as the bloody cassowary never eventuated.

It wasn't until we got home last night and I checked it out this morning that I discovered I had captured the bird that features on the cover of my bird bible.

As I said, we arrived home last night and I now have a mountain of catching up to do. Sorry for the lack of comments over the past 4 weeks.
What a brilliant capture, such a beautiful little bird, who needs a photo of an old cassowary anyway!

What a gorgeous bird. Not sure I'd be waiting around for a Cassowary though.

Wow! What a capture! Love the red line curving through the scene and of course the gorgeous bird hanging from it. I'm excited about my little all-blue bird; can't imagine how I'd react to something THIS colorful within my viewfinder.

Great picture. Love how you captured both the pattern of the green fronds and then right where the red line bisects the photo you've caught the bird perched. Really nice. Fav

I love this, especially with that red line going through the plant. I wasn't aware that cassowary's just wandered around, or was that area known for it?
