Heading north from Durango on the San Juan Scenic Byway (US550) towards Silverton.
After two days of stunning desert scenery, from Durango north, we we treated to some equally stunning mountain forest scenery as we travelled though the San Juan Mountains.
One of the things we were hoping to see in the US was some of the fall colours and once we got into the mountains, the aspens(?) put on a real display of yellow for us.
@aglennc No Anita. We had certainly been told about it many times and Ron had urged us to go on it but we just didn't have the time. We had a plane to catch in Denver the next day. The road trip up to Silverton was still very good - and we were able to pull over when we wanted to
