As if the 155yd, par 3, 11th hole, wasn't tough enough, we had to contend with these mobile hazards when we got on the green.
Rohan and I had been trying to get a game of golf in ever since we arrived.
We had settled on the Ruffled Feathers course at Lemont, not far from Naperville. It was rated as one of the ten best courses in the Chicago area -and there are plenty of them. We would book a time, and then cancel because of rain and then book another time and then cancel because of wind and then we would book a time and . . . you get the picture.
With only 2 days before we left to go home, we said OK, this is it. We are playing today come rain, or cold, or hail, or snow, or wind, or pestilence.
So Rohan rang up and asked for a time. "Yep, no worries, whenever you want" and off we went. Arrived at the course and it was very windy, it was very cold and there were occasional showers coming through. So we had 3 of the abovementioned handicaps.
"Hhmmm not many cars here" we thought and went in to the club house to pay our fees.
"Are you guys nuts playing today?" was our welcome.
"Not many players" was our reply.
"Not many?. You're the only ones. You've got the course to yourselves". And we did.
It was brutal. The course would have been tough at the best of times but with the cold, the wind and the odd shower, it was a real slog.
You golfers are a determine lot. The men in my family determined they were going to play golf in Pennsylvania in March one year when we were all gathered for a wedding. Their golf cleats came in handy on all the course ice conditions, and they played with black golf balls so they could see them in the snow and ice. This is a great photo that points to your determination to just get 9 holes in. Who won? The wind, cold, rain or geese? Lol.
I remember the weather when you were here and am quite impressed with your commitment to play. There are beautiful courses in the suburbs, but not so fun in inclement weather. I haven't touched a club since October!
I have never, ever experienced a time when I had the whole course to myself. I swear even if that did happen there would be a course marshal coming by letting me know, as a courtesy of course, that there were a number of open holes ahead of me and to try and move it along. And don't you love it when dozens of geese help you out with your game? Putting can be quite a challenge after they get done decorating it!
