Its been a long time since I have posted any shots of our backyard bird life and this being the first day of the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, I thought it would be fitting to start a week of postings of our local bird life.
Galahs are a fairly irregular visitor to our place but we were lucky this time to have three, two adults and a juvenile. The most we have ever had at one time was nine but it is usually just a few.
The bird count involves standing in your backyard (or any other similar sized area) and identifying the species of birds and the number of that species that you see over a twenty minute period in your identified patch. It can be done once a day on any number of the days in the week.
I have participated in the count a number of times.
For 365ers from Oz who I have not contacted and would like to be a part of the count, see aussiebirdcount.org.au
Oops, thanks for the reminder Terry. If our weather allows I'll try to do a count tomorrow. There's no way that I could have spent 20 minutes in the garden today. I would have been blown away along with any bird that tried to venture out :)
