I'm Outa Here

Day 16 - Karumba, Gulf Country, NWQ

Say good bye to the Jabiru.

This series of postings of the Jabiru may look all good fun but there is a dark side.

I was talking to the lady who runs one of the charter fishing operations at Karumba and she told me that it was very unusual to have a Jabiru at Karumba. This one had arrived two days before we did and had just been hanging around the boat ramp ever since. She said that it never seemed to be attempting to fish (I certainly never saw it fishing) and she thought it may have been sick and become lost or something.
In my other posting for today, it seems to have no crop, not that I have any idea of whether it should have one.
We had decided that if it was still there the next morning, we would report it to the local National Parks and Wildlife people.
As it turned out, it was nowhere to be seen.
Hopefully off to somewhere safe. Let's hope it was there just for you.

Well, now I'm worried about the Jabiru. What a wonderful final image though — those wings are beautiful in their brown and white pattern. I hope he's okay...
