Sandy, pictured here riding from Karumba to Normanton, is from Germany and was out in Oz visiting her daughter and grand-children in Atherton. She had taken a couple of days to ride her motorbike (a 125cc Honda!!!!!!) from Atherton to Karumba a distance of almost 700kms She was sleeping in a small one man tent.
After Karumba, she was going to ride the 200kms of corrugated dirt road to Burketown. Its a long and convoluted story how we hooked up with her in firstly Normanton and then in Karumba but we had a lovely evening in the Karumba pub the night before.
Now the kicker and why I felt compelled to post this shot. Sandy works for "Doctors without Borders" - I presume you have heard of it. She had just finished a 6 month assignment in The Congo (phew!!). Her next assignment which she was taking up in a couple of weeks, was in . . . . . wait for it . . . . Afghanistan.
All of sudden, riding a small motorbike 1000kms across the top end seems like child's play.
We sent this photo to her and it is now her profile pic on her Facebook page. LOL
