Windorah CBD

Day 23 - Windorah, Channel Country, SWQ

A guy I used to work with used to say that if you wanted to see what the a-hole of the world looked like, go to Windorah. Of course that meant that I always wanted to go there.

A bit harsh perhaps but it certainly didn't have the same feel as the other small outback towns.

Windorah is the last port of call before the 10 hour, 380km trek to Birdsville and the Simpson Desert so it is busy with tourists making their last minute preparations.

LOL with that grumpy bastard from your other photo, no wonder its the a-hole of the world!

What a thriving metropolis!! Ha ha - and the last stop before BIRDSVILLE & SIMPSON DESERT - just had to highlight those 2 famous places!!! Bit of a common theme happening either end of Birdsville - Marree was a most interesting place too - they turn the power off on Sundays as there's not many people there to use it!!!!

Nice wide streets in this a-hole town.
@gilbertwood Whaaaat, they turn the power off on Sundays. The town must be full of bright sparks to let that happen.

Travelled through here in '75 (and since) and filled up the Landrover, didn't fill the Jerry Cans because of weight and I would fill again at Betoota. The bloke at the Windorah servo never advised that the servo at Betoota was closed even though I told him I was heading to Birdsville. Bought fuel at Mt Leonard Station, thankfully. Always wondered why the bloke at Windorah never advised that Betoota was closed as it could have created a serious situation. Nice shot Poppo.

Definitely looks like rush hour.

This scene gives me the impression that it doesn't matter which side of the road you drive on, although I'm sure that can't be true.

This is busy? Would hate to see it on a quiet day...

Love that wide street. Should cope well with peak-hour traffic.
