Aldabra Tortoise by terryliv

Aldabra Tortoise

Another shot taken during a visit to Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's zoo) in September.

I was all ready to introduce this guy as a Galapagos Tortoise but I have now discovered it is a Aldabra Tortoise, another of the giant tortoise species. Aldabra tortoises are native to the islands of the Aldabra Atoll and Seychelles, off the coast of Africa and are one of the largest tortoise species in the world. Adults can be over one metre tall and weigh up to 300 kgs.

I feel cheated. LOL
Wow, what a tortoise. Great shot.

What a gorgeous creature. We visited the Galapagos Islands in 2008. Being close enough to Galapagos tortoise in the wild to hear breathing was an incredible experience.
