Day 21: College Fjord
Because of the rain, there were only a handful of us up on the open deck above the bridge which meant that for the long period we sat looking at the glacier, it was very quiet and still. Quiet, that is except for the cracking and grinding of the glacier which was quite loud and almost continuous.
This is one of a series of pics of a portion of the face of the Harvard Glacier collapsing. You can see the splash in the centre of the pic. I have no idea how high this face is. Let's just say it is bloody high.
@ubobohobo Hi Margaret, Actually we had been down stairs in the bar having a couple of drinks when we realised we were well up the fjord. Nanna and I bolted up onto the top deck with our cameras - but we didn't stop to get our wet weather gear in case we missed something. Spent the best part an hour absolutely bloody freezing - no gloves, no beanies, and no WW gear. But it was worth it. I managed to get some towels from the pool area and we used them to try to keep a bit dry/warm. The funniest bit was that we left in such a hurry, we never did get to pay for our last round of drinks. ha ha ha
Amazing shot, I like the story that goes with it as well. How often are you going to be able to marvel at such a site? Well worth getting cold for I think. (Nice work getting out of the last round too :)
