I posted a pic of the plover many months ago but this is a much better one that I took at golf this morning. The bugger would not look at me. As I walked around trying to get a shot from the front, he just moved around too, watching me out the corner of his eye.
The plover lays its eggs in the middle of the open ground (like a fairway) and then defends the eggs and later the chicks against all attackers by its raucous calling and by swooping and striking threats with their feet and the spurs on the wing joint. Very cool birds - I love them
They are such strange birds and well done for getting this shot. One has layed eggs on the roundabout near our shopping centre. They aren't the brighest of birds are they.
Get out! I've never heard of a bird having a spur on the wing joint. Glad none of mine do. They're wicked enough with just a beak. :) Funny that this one would not make direct eye-contact with you. Really good pic of this very interesting bird.
