The Asian House Gecko is a recent arrival in Australia and more recently Brisbane. While they are rather cute and very interesting to watch, they are a bit of a pest. Apart from the fact they are messy, noisy and can set off security alarms and short circuit air conditioning units, they are also responsible for displacing the native gecko from houses.
Since arriving in Australia, they have moved rapidly from tropical north Queensland and the Northern Territory west to the Kimberley and south well into NSW.
@lyndemc They really are interesting to watch them run around on the walls. They are very good hunters and catch moths which they beat the crap out of on the walls (hence the messy part of the problem with them). Rhoda used to describe our walls as the "Killing Fields" with moth dust(?) splotches over it.
Great capture Terry, is it noctrrnal it seems to have large eyes for its size, sounds like these are as popular as the grey squirrels here killing off our native reds;)
Oh my word you do get "interesting" wildlife in your garden and house Terry!! I would have heart failure if I met one of these on a dark night!! Such a wuss!!
We shared our abode in Cloncurry with these little critters. The toll was one microwave and the power source of hubbies computer. They were noisy but such cute little things :)
@hermann ha ha That's funny - although I'm sure you didn't think so at the time. I know we should try to get rid of them but they are just so interesting and entertaining to watch. Yeah, and cute too
I really enjoy watching these little fellas hunt too - have you ever seen them fight? Really quite vicious little critters - glad they are only small and not our size - great shot
Nice shot Terry.I absolutely hate these dirty little buggers.I have photos of microwave ovens on fire and cct boards burnt from when i was repairing same.By the time i was given the job the smell of rotting gecko nearly made me throw up on some jobs.
