This guy is on a log floating in the channel just below an observation platform. Other red-wings are flying around but he has laid claim to the log. Here he is squawking, spreading his wings to flash his colorful epaulettes and telling the others to stay away.
I'm pleased to report that it worked. None of the others bothered him. I can't say, however, if it was because of his aggressive territorial display or if the others simply didn't want anything to do with a log floating in the channel.
