Hard to avoid right now. I guess the best thing for elders, whether they be family or friends, is to talk about it. I've avoided war movies for most of my life but my brothers were interested in them and the tv shows (sort of the documentaries of the time) about the 2nd world war.
It's interesting to me that kids like to do that. I had a friend who never let her kids play with any type of guns. One of her sons one lunchtime bit his graham cracker into a sort of gun shape and was pretending he was shooting a gun! All that's happening recently is so sad!
I am not pro guns and weaponry that causes short and long term harm to mind, body and spirit. i had to be determined to stop my son playing with guns. My MIL one day gave him a gun shaped water pistol. I was not delighted. I tried to parent peace and encourage the creative side and constuctive toys including Lego. Also cooking and keeping fit.
