Brolga Family

Three juvenile birds with their preening adult protectors. The adults have the pinkish-red, naked headbands while the young have much duller bands.

How lovely to see so many, especially with youngsters. Where did you spot these? I find them very elusive, even though I know they're around where I live.

@girlie Our house paddock separates a swap area from farm land and they've been teasing me for weeks, trumpetting loudly everymorning before they leave the swamp to fly to the farms. Then late in the afternoon they do the same. On Saturday, they trumpetted in the farm across the road in front of the house. I had to drive in the car ove a kilometer to get close enough. Then hid behind a gum tree and waited for them to come in close. But as soon as they were aware of my presence they were gone. Yes...elusive describes them perfectly.
