Taken during a late afternoon reconnaissance walk to check the upper reaches of the Awoonga Dam after last week's flooding. Preparing for a busy weekend of visitors to the Discovery Centre - bird watchers, bushwalkers and a four wheel drive club arriving to spend Easter in the valley. Just wanted to make sure all was still safe for exploring.
@terek55@http365proj@nikkic I'm with you guys...first time I've seen this type so that's why he's on show today - yet there were heaps of them buzzing about the edges of the dam yesterday afternoon. Have to do a google and see what I can find.
My research shows it is called a Halloween Dragonfly and the position of the wings at rest is typical of the species. Amazing to think dragonfly were around before dinosaurs!
