The morning air is filled with the raucous calls of sulphur-crested cockatoos. What a dim! Add the screeching of galahs and it has become quite deafening. Cockatoos are nature's gardeners. They use their powerful beaks to trim off branches from the tree. But I'm too kind. What they are really doing is dropping the autumn crop of fruit to the ground so they can come back later and feed on the seeds once the fruit has dried out. So although it works well on native plants they are a menace to fruit trees in the garden. They can strip a small trees of its fruit in a couple of visits.
We used to use a scare-gun to keep these beauties out of the sorghum crops (noisy not deadly). Do love these birds when my income is not threatened. Wish I could get a shot like this
Koala bears, cockatoos- you live in a magical place!! We had a din outside today too- but our birds are not as magnificent as yours. Blue Jays are handsome enough, but sometimes scare all the little birds away from the feeder.
