Ok, my first "get pushed" challenge. I was challenged by Marelize Dry @ounooi to do a panning shot. So, today after work, I stopped by the railroad tracks to give it a try. My first panning shot as well. What helped a lot, is not only to follow the subject with the camera and click, but set it on continuous shooting, and let the camera do a couple of snaps while you are following the subject. And I like it more on black.
@ounooi, here is one try from today! Thanks for the challenge, it was fun, although I must have looked ridiculous just standing there in the middle of the road waiting for the train to come :)
Fantastic Vera! The panning is great, and you make the train look rather new, shiny & beautiful. I like the way the train tracks are echoed by the lines on the top of the train, and that white bike in full focus. Well done on taking the get pushed plunge. I'm not quite there yet ;)
Thank you all so much about your comments on the panning train! I was very nervous about doing the "get pushed" challenge, and I am happy that it seems to have worked out. :)
@whimsicalgrateful
Thanks, Marta! I felt I started to just do the same things over and over again - it might not look so for an observer as the subjects are different, but I felt some kind of forward movement I felt in the beginning was lost. So... as much as I was afraid to try, I did it. Looking forward to the next one! :)
@pistache
Thank you so much, Clare! I thought I was not ready too to start participating in the "get pushed" things, but then I told myself that I will probably never feel ready - I am not taking any photography classes or workshops, just doing the same "read a little" and the "shoot a little" kind of thing. And that has not been giving me a feeling recently that I am learning anything new, so I tried. You should just go ahead and do it! It's thrilling and fun, and gives a sense of being accountable (which, for me, has often been the only real motivator :) . So, maybe I will see you there in the coming weeks? Chances are then, we can be paired up one day :)
