on pointe

Lily got her first pair of pointe shoes today. She and her friend Amy went together, driven by my friend Wendy (also known as Amy's Mom). Thank goodness for Wendy. She always steps up for carpooling. Pointe shoes require an hour long appointment during which time, you try on about 40 pairs of shoes with various toe pads (or maybe there are only two kinds of toe pads --not sure about that). Amy picked out her shoes in 30 minutes. When I arrived at the shop, Lily had been trying shoes for 35 minutes and narrowed the selection down to two different toe pads and these three pairs of shoes. Another 30 minutes later she had decided on the pair she is wearing (I think -- after awhile they all seem to look alike) and the gel pads. And ribbons for the pointe shoes. And a special bag to carry the pointe shoes so that they can get "air." And after another 25 minutes later we also had new ballet shoes. And new ribbons for the ballet shoes. And a pair of dance shorts. Trying on pointe shoes is very tiring.

I am extremely impressed hat Lily can do that!
