Today I left out some fabric and yarn scraps on my bushes to see if the birds use them for nests. While I’m working from home I spend a lot of time looking at the birds out the window (one day this week I saw a northern flicker AND a downy woodpecker). I pretended the nest making supplies were to share on my webpage with my 4th grade students (who were doing a project with nests when we abruptly left school), but really it was just for me.
@eudora I'm really hoping that will happen, but I don't have many trees in my yard anymore, so I don't know if I will actually see any nests. I collect nests and have the kids measure them and and write down what they're made of, then they use a field guide to see if they can figure out what kind of bird made it. My friend gave me one that has a plastic grocery bag woven through it. The kids love that one!
