We were welcomed into this Nubian house on Elephantine Island, where Village Chief Hamada lives with his extended family.
Hamada gave us a tour (for baksheesh, naturally) of the island, where around 5,000 people live in colourful houses, farm the fertile land and tend mango groves.
This is a relative of the Chief who made sure we stayed for a fish lunch and bought a handful of souvenirs. We left with two camels carved out of buffalo horn but turned down the crocodile teeth.
