Our second day in NC took us to Southport where we spent the morning with SusanRosenberg shopping the boutiques on historic Moore Street. The weather was iffy but we still took the ferry across the Cape Fear River to Bald Head Island, the southernmost of North Carolina's cape islands.
Keeping with our Michigan tradition of lighthouse visiting, we ventured through the marsh on the boardwalk to Old Baldy, the state’s oldest standing lighthouse, circa 1817. Arriving just in time before the gift shop closed due to the off-season hours, I got three stamps in my lighthouse passport and bought a charm for my Places I've Been bracelet. Despite it spitting rain all afternoon and it being colder than anticipated, we had a ball. I would love to go back next time we visit to rent a golf cart and explore the rest of the island.
