My neighbor has a doghouse on his lawn and today I saw a stray cat took up residance in the house today. I really liked the concept of the cat in the big doghouse. Her yellow eyes and gray fur were beautiful. I couldn't find a way to frame the shot without my neighbor's garden hoses trailing up the back of the building.
I am on the fence if there is anything I could do to save this background or if I am just more in love with the concept than I should be. Maybe I should have concentrated on just shooting a great shot of the cat?
I think your looking into it to much...i think the hoses give it life and it doesn't look so posed....it looks like a real life shot of..well real life !
you could blur out the background, or remove it entirely or selective colour or ... using GIMP which is freeware too - it really depends on what you want from it
@gurry Your imagination far exceeds mine.... can't help but think that he needs a trip to Europe as well as a nice day at the seaside, though. Hm how about somewhere where there are lots of mice....?! :)
@jennkaotic sorry you asked? ;p my solution after reviewing the print on screen, would have been to drag the cat back to the doghouse and restage the shot, shooting from a much lower view point... i'd be looking to get something along the lines of @mikehamm crop, but with more of the house visible...
Thanks everyone! I love the shots... @aaron isn't the moon made of cheese? @gary love the landscape! @gary Greece is great!! I think I might have to try Egypt though.... they did worship cats! @northy I would have loved to restage the shot but it's a stray and kept running away from me hence the baleful glare. Thanks for the ideas!
@gurry Haha, thanks Gary! I was going to color kitty's house blue and throw it into downtown london with Dr Who poking out of it... but I got hungry and lost interest :)
Well, if nothing else has ever fully convinced me that I need to master PS, this thread should do the trick. You are all speCATularly clever. Fun, fun, fun!!
omg so many more hilarious photoshops! @jennkaotic Thank you Jennifer for sharing your photo and letting us play, teh Kitty seems to have taken on a life of his own and has become very adventurous.
Praise ceiling cat I needed those lolz! @jennkaotic I think a nice close crop may be what you want if you can't get close enough without spooking it. Shoot once, then move forward, slowly.
Shooting with a wider aperture will of course help 1.8 if your camera can handle it.
This is freaking hilarious! @jennkaotic Are you sorry you asked? The shot is nice as is, but I really enjoyed seeing it on the water slide and Titanic. Water helps everything. ;)
@Mary No I am not sorry I asked. I just wish I had time the last couple of days to do it myself. Funny thing is if I had asked "Hey can a bunch of you photoshop this cat into some pictures for me." No one would have done anything! For some reason kitty has taken on a life of her own. I will let kitty know next time I see her what a hit she is.
Wonderful editing everyone. I haven't had this good of a laugh in a long time.
@jennkaotic You probably didn't know what you were getting yourself into with your topic. Great ideas, though. I don't use Photoshop much so I would be clueless on how to change a background.
@jsw0109@ladyjane@wilbo43 haha thank you guys! I think I know an other one were it fits in nicely... let see if I can find a moment to put it together ;-)
WOW - simply love all the creativity - my kudos go to @jsw0109@elke@karens68@gurry ... actually too many to include - just LOVE it! ... Ross @Scrivna, we could do with a "FaceBook LIKE" option :-D
Oh this looked like too much fun to pass by.
If you don't have photoshop (I don't only Lightroom) and you have Gimp but don't know how to use it, you can use Ipiccy.
Some more options:
1) blur out background
2) use the curve and either darken or white out the background then use the eraser to bring back what you want
3) clone out the unwanted stuff
OMG someone just revived this thread and I want to thank that person! This is hilarious! Wish I knew how to do these kinds of photos! Who wants to come to my house to teach me?
I totally missed this thread the first time around, so thank you to whomever revived it! Now I want to go play in PS and Lightroom with some of the pics of my cats.... :-)
p.s. sorry i was too lazy to remove the background in the doghouse
Sorry I was too lazy to sod the rest of the lunar surface. ;)
@gurry @grizzlysghost @tracywilliams you guys are cracking me up...
@jennkaotic I like the pic as it is.
@emmac @jennkaotic @beachradish @filsie65
Kitty's very well travelled, he's been to an exotic location in Cornwall too:

Awesome job, everyone :)
@jennkaotic Love that the poker playing dogs have a picture of a cat on their wall.
What a fun thread!
@gurry :-P
@jsw0109 LOL.
@maggierda Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
This thread is great. Certainly a lot of creativity here.
Is it possible to fave a thread?! :)
Oh and BTW I like the hoses, gives it a place and feel for the backyard!
what fabulous thread.

Thank you! (I enjoyed to whole thread!)
