I believe the term ETSOOI was first introduced by MaryBeth Dailey @espyetta It's an acronym for Editing The Sh*t Out Of It :o) I love the term and use it for a lot of my shots as I rarely post anything that's SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) although to be fair I usually just tweak a bit but ETSOOIing is going that extra mile.
Just recently there have been a lot of people asking what it means and as it's gradually becoming part of 365 parlance I thought it would be great to see examples of your worst and best examples of this particular genre :o)
The only editing ive done in my project so far (except or the occassional crop) is this photo..... I love it... Its my first multiplicity photo but it def wont be my last
This is my best and worst together, I think. Best for the idea and the story behind it but I wish I'd taken my time more with the editing and used different colors. It was getting dark when I took it and the light was crap, wish I'd thought to do it earlier.
I know it's hard to tell it's heavily edited, but really... it is! :P
HAHA!! :oD No,I really did think you had 6 arms!! We live and learn don't we. I think it's really clever as I wouldn't have a clue where to start but there's always the opportunity to re-do shots :o)
@psychographer Thanks Lisa. Was amazing to see. Great Horned Owl, stood about 3 feet tall... was huge. Processing though, looks like some bad porn for owls. Lmao
@psychographer@peterdegraaff Thanks for the support Peter but it was totally @espyetta 's baby! I just took it and ran with it because I loved it so! I will take credit for introducing it to mainstream 365 with the ETSOOI challenge I started last year but that was because I wanted MaryBeth to get some recognition for such a lovely acronym!
love the term as I do a lot of post processing and sometimes feel like I've ETSOOI. sometimes I feel like I've gone too far and say to myself, if I have to do this much, it's probably not a very good shot =)
I ETSOOI'd this one to try to get that sign to stand out.
This is my most ETSOOI'ed.
Well, actually this one is, but I'm not sure if photoshopping can be considered the same thing. I think of ETSOOI as taking a "meh" photo and making something acceptable out of it.
Haha! Thanks for starting this fun ETSOOI discussion! Maybe this summer, I'll host another ETSOOI challenge! Katy @grammyn did them last summer when I said I was too busy. It really did help spread the acronym around here. It would be fun to have one or two again. They were hard to judge....we did not know whether a "winner" of an ETSOOI challenge should look "good" but you could not really tell it was ETSOOIed with all those edit steps, or look the crappiest. haha! I think we should said "Obvious that it was ETSOOI-ed, ANAD look GOOD" for the winning criteria. Anyway, when I get home, I am going to hunt out my best and worst ETSOOI! Your good one up there is so great. It is 3D in effect!
Oh, I see you saying "Another ETSOOI challenge" up there now. Do you think I should do one? I could do it during my Spring Break which is second week in April? @psychographer
@espyetta Oh MaryBeth, don't think I'm trying to push you into doing it!! I was thinking maybe I could host the initial one and then winner takes over to choose a subject and host the subsequent challenge and so on. I do wonder if I have enough time to do it justice though as even taking and posting a shot a day as well as commenting is hard to keep up with atm. I would love to be involved somehow though :o) xx
@psychographer Hi Lisa! No worries! and I did not think you were pushing me into it. :0) If you are going to host one, I think that is great! If you wanted me to, that is fine as well. Whichever you want. It's all good. Oh, and do you mean that the host is picking a subject that the person must shoot and then ETSOOI? Last time, I think the subject was just ETSOOI... Not sure though. I think maybe you will get more participation if you just leave it at ETSOOI.
Until I finished my project last year, I really didn't edit much outside the realm of tweaking. This year I'm going all out on trying new things...it's rather liberating!!
This is probably the one I've ETSOOI'ed the most...
My ETSOOI shot attempting to make a bad shot better... failed miserably. Posted anyway because my project is all about my camera learning experience (and for a good laugh one day).
I think my claim to fame shall be that I won the FIRST etsooi contest! I shall continue to think of it as editing the sorryness out of it :-) This was my winning shot:
Tweedle Bill and Tweedle Bob
I love etsooi. I actually have two printed quite large on my walls. This one:
and this one:
and this is one of my favourite ETSOOI shots

I agree 100%, the processing is as much (maybe more!) fun for me than the actual photography!
I know it's hard to tell it's heavily edited, but really... it is! :P
I was not at all happy with anything from this shoot, so I HDR'ed it to death.
Your shot is just beautiful even though it doesn't look over edited
And, for my push to do a completely altered photo ...
This was fun to do too, but I should have kept this as a learning experience instead of posting it.
Purposely ETSOOI (love that!) to get a creepy feel to it. I, too, was a SOOC of the gal before 365, but am finding the editing just so much fun!
I ETSOOI'd this one to try to get that sign to stand out.
This was my first actual ETSOOI:
Well, actually this one is, but I'm not sure if photoshopping can be considered the same thing. I think of ETSOOI as taking a "meh" photo and making something acceptable out of it.
Gave these tulips an artsy feel !
One glass ETSOOI style !!
it was the only way i could recover from the shock of seeing the wrinkles and blotches on display in the original shot !!
And this too:
Thanks all for such a great response and for sharing your wonderful ETSOOIed shots. Maybe it's time for another ETSOOI challenge :o)
So many hidden edits in here...but I did fall in love with it.
One should never deny oneself some good ol' ETSOOI! (Oh, if that didn't sound pompous...!)
To mention a few... ;-p
And I tried to pass this one of as SOOC... but somehow most saw through me...
This is probably the one I've ETSOOI'ed the most...
Lovely image and great processing!

I had fun ETSOOI ing this one!
