Today, I saw the most inspirational post on Facebook!
It was from Jenn @shutterbugger.
It about starting afresh to do the "real" photo a day Project 365. At that moment, I realized that I have had my year and a half off to post as I so choose. That the real inspiration/motivation I needed to get my blood flowing was to commit to posting a photo a day again. Just like I did my first year. And to just keep it low key, so I have time to talk to my friends on here again at a more frequent interval.
This will also solve my "Dec. 31 envy" I feel each year, when everyone is finishing their year long projects, clapping each other on the proverbial backs, holding their very real flutes of champagne high in the air, and saying "Congrats! We did it! What a great year I had in (fill in the year)."
You see, I started Project 365 in June. By accident. Which most of you guys know if you have talked to me much. I just got on to see my niece's photos (she was 16 at the time) . Then she said "I'm following YOU now, Maymay!" and that is how it all began. With my little Canon P and S and my niece as a follower.
I have been too busy to post a pic a day, so the way I am going to accomplish this is to take at least one diary/journal/whatever type pic with my iphone and post it SOOC if there is not time to edit it, straight from my phone. I love having my "diary" at the end of the year. And when I DO have time to get out my DSLR and take nature pics and some of the other types that take so long to take, sort out, process, and post, then I will do that. So please forgive me if I post some craptastic pics. Just realize I maybe on a different path this year.
My MAIN goals are to post daily and view/comment on friends posts more often.
If YOU are "old" and want to be "new" again, jump on board with me. We could even have a "tag" for our shots so you could follow these OLD people who are trying to do it daily again. Maybe eoina (Everything Old is New Again)
But I won't bother with the the tag if i am the only one doing it... :0)
Which I am sensing will be the case. Some of my very close friends on here are STILL posting daily. Whew. They make me tired. Haha

i'm staying - but not sure the tag would apply to me... i've got a shot for each day, although some are fillers (but still taken within a few days of the date posted)... not sure what this year will bring - but to date, for me, 365 hasn't been about the discipline of shooting every day, but more about learning to use my camera and to SEE, and as a place to share my passion with others...
anyway - good for you for being ready to make the commitment for a daily post! Happy New Year!!
@darylo I don't know, Daryl. I need to go look at your write ups of your pics. Do you explain it there? I am sorry. It sounds like it was NOT GOOD. And yes, you get a prize! What did you give for prizes when you did this. A HOTDOG?Haha
@cdonohoue Cathy! Yay. You the hotdog prize too! Have you posted daily, no fillers for this past "year" starting with summer? Or have you "dawdled around" like me ? You can restart and be perfect (or shoot for it) and we can all "congrats" each other next Dec. 31. woo hoo! :0)
@espyetta It should be mostly evident there. My motherinlaw passed away in Mexico minutes before xmas day and because I was the only passport legal family member, I went. Was too much to process, but I got in my last photos. It's all there. Ended in a hard place. Year 2 for me will be mostly what @northy talks about. I'm going to learn more about my camera and I'm taking on learning processing in an intentional way. I will not always take or post daily, but if the number of photos I took this year (way over 13,000) are an indicator, I'll have plenty from which to choose and not from old dates. :)
Hotdog. I've thought about doing something like that, and I'd love to join in, but I have some other projects that need my devotion this year. I wish you best of luck!
One could offer the HOTDOG as the prize! I also started on a random day in October. Thought I'd be lucky to finish one year but lo and behold here I still am busy with year three! Sometimes I think I should take a bit of a break but that never happens.

Hee hee I WISH I could change my tag so it was not espyetta but I think that is "Set in STONE" around here. Haha! It is weird, because if I have had a pic on the PP, and I touch on it on my iphone and ipad, and my name pops up on it, it says "MaryBeth Dailey"but on computer, if I hover my cursor on the pic, it says Espyetta. Bah! Why? I cannot figure it out. Anyway, Jenn, THANK YOU for the push! I needed that!
HOTDOG - YES - i Buy-Into your entire post. It fits exactly where I am. I turned 65 in early December and can dedicate an album to the pic a day journal entry. It can challenge me to post a verbal journal too. I will keep my other album for the pics I think are decent ...or not (in the 3rd album). Lets' roll .... eoina

HOTDOG!! I agree! Somehow I feel that I have to have "perfect" photography-wise pictures every day, so I will not post every day until I can find time to edit, etc. I am proud of myself for finishing my first year, and I just got a new camera (Rebel T3i) so I want to post even better pics. The problem is every time I pic up the manual how to use it, I feel even more stupid. So I think I will keep two journals going - one that really is a pic a day and truly becomes more of a place to post a pic that accompanies my writing and then a more polished folder for my Rebel pics! I look forward to your photos and I'm in for the TAG thing. Let me know. Happy new year to you!

Yeah, we all have to do what we have to do. After a year and a half, I have learned so much more about my camera, about some set up shots (mostly by playing with minion toys and that metal man I got at the museum), a little bit about lighting (but need to learn so much more), etc.. but I figure I can still do that some, when I have time. ON weekends, etc.. I want to keep learning. But, I also want to feel reconnected and get a shot a day posted. So, here we go. And I love your pics, @northy ! so whatever you do, just keep doing that! After we talked about ETSOOI the other day, I was looking through my 365 pics for some reason, and saw that month of minions I did. And I did that one that was an homage to your style..minion in subway in b and w. To me, that is ETSOOI for sure. I was deleting old pics off my phone the other day, and saw the original for that shot. Just a plastic minion toy, standing on a table in a Starbucks bathroom. hee hee
@sophiaz Yay, Sophia! That's great! I think it will be a wonderful kick start to some of us who were feeling "draggy." Glad you are jumping on the EOINA bandwagon!

@espyetta HOTDOG! Well, I left in the summer and deleted my account. Went over to Flickr. I love how things look and have made a dent in the community - but it is LARGE over there. Started a new account here (remember to add me back!) again since I like the smaller personal atmosphere. So between 365 & Flickr I have my fun.
Since my schedule is everywhere these days - I take a huge amount of pics and then not many. So I experiment with processing etc. and will be going 'out to the public' with some of my shots. Need to break that boundary to expand the experience! ;)
@lbluejaye8 Congrats on the new camera! You will love it. I love my T2i. Glad you are joining us!

@willowdragon@espyetta If you want to see where "Hotdog" came from, well it's on the narrative to this photo. Some of you know I started this project as a writing project--I'm known for long narratives. I knew people read the narratives when they wrote "hotdog" in the comment section. :) I was awarding Hotdog points and virtual hotdog awards (well, just he idea of it anyway). a starbucks bathroom????? hahahhahahah! that is hilarious! i love the light in bathrooms and keep meaning to get some decent shots to work with... but people look at ya kinda funny when you take your camera out in a public washroom, so my opportunities are few and far between ;p
@northy Yeah. I needed to get that "tile" look that is in most subways...and I had that minion in my messenger bag. And saw the tile! and the rest is history. Oh, and I got lucky. It was a "one seater" one person type bathroom. So no one could see me. I would post it, but it is not on my phone anymore. It may be on my ipad or laptop up here at lake, but probably not. I dumped all my pics from the phone onto my poor PC at home. It is there. I will have to show you what that original looked like. Some major ETSOOI. Really.
Hotdog! I'm glad that you are sticking around! This will be Year 3 for me and I have no idea where I'm headed or how I'll proceed so I guess it will be all about taking a photo a day and seeing what develops and expecting the unexpected.

@vskolnik That's great Vee! I think if we just do what you are doing..just proceed...maybe not sure what we will be doing, but just do it, as that sports gear ad says. Just do it! It is going to be a great year. We all need to "meet back" here on Dec. 31, as we are about to head into 2015 (I cannot believe we will be at 2015..sounds like the future! LOL!) and celebrate together.
@willowdragon Have you seen Daryl O'Hare's picture of the street musician up there? That was her original post of anything about the Hotdog points/prizes. she explains it all.
@mrsbaldy Yeah, it kinds of stinks to start on any other day than Jan. 1. But I did not know that then. LOL! This starting on the perfect start day is the only perfectionism I am going to allow myself this year. I just need to post what I got and move on!
Im totally with you Marybeth! I started out doing this as a journal, pictoral diary and ended up getting bogged down with trying to get better and better and to see my pics on peoples favs and top slots and then got despondant. In the summer I was just too busy, but today I decided to try again and then saw this blog. Happy New Year!
Hot Dog and EOINA for me too! 1st year was the best, then 2nd year took awhile longer now just barely making it. I think the photos were getting so good on here that the pressure to get better photos took a tole on me. I would like to get back to daily post and check in on others more. Thank you- now that I deleted both rounds of photos from this morning- all too blurry- I will have to get another for today.

HOTDOG! I DID start on Jan 1 originally, but I have yet to make a full year of everyday. I'm up for the tag :-) I've really fallen off on commenting and miss the back and forth of just checking out folks shots. It doesn't help that my son is always on my photography computer! I am now committing to kicking him off more often!LOL
Great thread you've started here, MB! Timing is good as I'm trying to figure out what Year 2 means. I had decided to take a break but so far today (and I slept in and it's only 3:00): (a) crows landed in tree by a large nest so even though it is snowing like crazy, I had the door-window open to photograph and then (b) had to get the macro out to try to get a snowflake and then (c) had to download the photos to see what was there and (d) to back to a fence photo taken yesterday to do some editing as I like it better than today's photos and (e) read comments and responded to a few and (f) reminded myself I'm supposed to address addiction to 365 and stop spending so much time on it! I did read a book this morning for about an hour -- so did put aside 365 a little bit! I think since I'm coming off the photo ad day, I won't join the EOINA commitment, but I will continue to try to do a post a day. And clearly, writing narratives is not my problem -- will work on being more succinct!
Hotdog! So glad I am not alone here! I started in February 13, but became overwhelmed at the idea of posting just any old shot. I really want to commit to a photo a day. No matter how craptastic. Lol!
I love the idea of journaling.I live in the woods so even though every nature photo I take represents my day..I do want to be able to look back and read about what I was thinking and feeling that day...like a visual diary.Will try to do more for myself in that regard! My third year begins today. . I'm really glad that many people I follow are continuing. My resolution will be to comment on your photos -- I've really fallen way behind in the past few months and I apologize. Okay, all you "veteran" 365-ers who need some new "juice" to get you excited about photography and Project 365! We are going to tag our shots eoina ...If you can remember to tag something daily. Is it case sensitive? You'd think I'd know this by now. I just was trying to avoid having people have to hit caps lock to type it every time. But it may not mattter. Anyway... Tag it as often as you can remember! Search out that tag and encourage those of us who think we are too "old" to learn a new trick! haha I just tagged my first shots for the new year....My silly minions over indulging! They are a mess.
@lbluejaye8 Well, you just post a pic a day, on the "correct" time slot for the calendar for when it was taken. Some of us don't do that anymore. We did one year like that, and then had to "rest" and stuff. If you tag your pic "eoina" then we can follow that tag and cheer you on/encourage you.
@espyetta Okay...you've convinced me. I was going to take today off, but then didn't so here we go -- Year 2 has just begun with a commitment to a daily post (but MAYBE not a daily take??)
@espyetta Oh, thank you for writing this. I got so frustrated, stressed and overwhelmed by the end of my first year, I just couldn't continue after I finished. I don't have a smart phone. Maybe I'll look to find an inexpensive P&S for the same idea. I love and miss my DSLR but stressing about the time and energy to shoot and edit with it every day was too much. I felt like I was not good enough because it was so much work for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
@mzzhope Hot diggity dog, to you too, Hope! Yes, I love my nature walks and nature photography too. If that is what I do that day, I will post it. I will still do it. I am just trying to tell myself that if it gets to the point where I am about to post nothing, waiting to look at my nature pics to find the "perfect one" and the process it, I will just post a diary shot or something I took with my phone that day, write a bit about my day, and move on.
@taffy People who have just finished year one, OFTEN need a break. I did. I made msyelf miss a day or two after that, just to break the "string" of posts and get over the addiction> But I am still addicted to taking pics of everything and do it daily. haha
@m9f9l Yes, pull on some big old boots and KICK him off of that thing! haha I know I have limited time,but I am hoping to accept that, take a pic with my phone, and just post it. And quit taking so much TIME to do that..So I am going to post a pic a day and do it "Fast" and move on.
@espyetta wow...you're very welcome!!! Look at me, inspiring people and stuff!! I'm not sure if I'll take a photo a day but I'll try my hardest to post one. I work Fridays and Saturdays and it's dark when I get home, so I can tell you right now that those days will be fillers.

@scooter All you can do is try! It might be easier to tag them hotdog. I have trouble remembering the eoina tag. But if type it 365 times this year, I guess it will become easier.

HOTDOG! I am still here . . . in my 3rd year - and I am still on AUTO! I have strayed away from shooting and posting every day but each shot is done during the month it is posted. My 2014 resolution is to get off the auto mode and learn how to really shoot. Saving for a new camera - almost there. Still love taking the pictures but finding it hard to edit and post every day. Looking forward to shots from old friends and newbies.

@tahoemb when you are typing up your write up, just type "eoina" in the TAGS box, and then after you hit save, click on that tag "eoina" in TAGS for that pic. It will find all the others.
@summerfield yes, Vikki! I need to realize that too! I am starting to figure out that I should at least post ONE pic a day...and not worry about doing all 3 albums or nothing. I hope this summer my album will have some pics from a meet up in Canada with some of the 365ers !
@eyeseeu I think most of us have time to take and upload a pic a day....but we get all picky about which version of it to post, how to process it, etc...takes for EVER. I hope to kill that instinct on most days.
HOTDOG! I've been thinking exactly the same thing. The first year when I took a photo every day, I learned so much--about my camera, about really looking at things, about taking time to do something for me. So I'm starting my 4th year with the intention of taking photos every day and posting one.
Hot diggety dog! Great discussion! I'm glad I'm not the only one. This is year 3, maybe 4, Idk....something for me. Going to give it another go! We'll see, Lord knows I need some learning. Please let me know if you decide on a tag for this hot dog business. :0)
@eudora I learned a lot year one, but then again, I had so much to learn! And I got a DSLR which gives us lot to learn. Then the past year and a half I have learned too and needed that "time off" from daily posting goal to learn more. Now I am going to keep doing "learn a new trick" types of pics when I have time but still put a daily pic between those moments. 😄
I'm heading in to year 4 and for the most part have tried to keep the photo a day process in tact. But when I travel or do a local photo walk, I have more than one shot I want to post and that's when I'll stretch the posting out over a few days. I have never used my third album and I don't intend to. 2 albums keep me busy enough! Technically I started on Jan. 15, but when I started, I did not realize you could go from the date you started to the same date the following year, so I back-filled the first 14 days of January and that's how my project ended up reading from Jan 1 to Jan 1. It was actually a good mistake, because I don't know if I'd really remember the "anniversary" date as Jan. 15 after year 1, but the start of a new year is a good way for me to keep track of the way my 365 calendar works too. What I needed a break from was the month long challenges. I did my first one in Aug. 2010 and was doing them up until Oct. 2013. I was starting to get sick of them and view them as a constraint rather than a help in the inspiration department. But I'll be doing the "Book Club" in Feb. and then return to "free form". If there's one thing about 365 which I've always liked is the phrase "your project, your rules" which basically underscores the freedom we have here to vary the way we approach the project. So, good for you on your renewed enthusiasm and happy shooting in 2014!! Oh and HOT DOG s all around!

Very excited about my jan. 1 start! It means that in June I will just let that 365 days completed go unmentioned ( for the most part) and celebrate next NYE! Yay! And yes, too many month long or week long challenges get to me. Cannot go there ... Anyway... Happy new year!

HOTDOG! I cheated. I didn't make it to the end and had to go back after seeing the word in every post! :) My first year on here, I didn't miss a single day, but this year I need to focus on other things in my life so something's gotta give so I'll just be hanging around and posting a few times a week and dropping by to socialize. I hope you meet your goal of making it the entire year. I have faith that you will!
@lisabell We are all in different places in this journey. for sure. I was so pooped out of it all after Year One. Now I can do it. I am going to try to make it "not a big deal." We'll see if I can do that. And you still get a hotdog point...here you go!
@espyetta Just wanted to let you know I had read it all. :-) While I post a photo daily, I've found what works best for me is to go on one or two "mini-shoots" (as I call them) a week and use those photos throughout the week so I'll probably keep doing that.

@sparkle We are just glad if you keep on posting, Juliette! We all have different goals for the year. So... we will all just check in on each other to see what others are doing! I wish I was getting to travel!
This is year four for me.. I took a brief hiatus from September - December of 2013 because I wasn't "feeling" it anymore. I think the hiatus is JUST what I needed. I now have a T3I and I'm READY to start again!
HOTDOG, is there a tag yet? I have reached the same conclusion independently, and am 3 days in!! Nice one MaryBeth, I think you've captured the essence again for many of us!

HOTDOG here too! I'm not sure where I am in the 365 year two or onwards calendar as I have had a couple of breaks, but I have started this year numbering my uploads 1, 2, 3 etc. with the aim to combine all DAILY TAKEN photos into a collage. I will be 60 (shriek, horror) this year and wanted to record the year, with all its nitty gritty, without taking the easy filler way out! I think you are right about not making it a big deal and not trying to produce that 'wow' image, just go with what we see and how the day is!

Was planning to be an undercover oldie, but as I've posting using the eoina tag for a few days already I guess I should step forward as a slacker needing a kick in the butt to pick up the camera. Very excited about my jan. 1 start! It means that in June I will just let that 365 days completed go unmentioned ( for the most part) and celebrate next NYE! Yay! And yes, too many month long or week long challenges get to me. Cannot go there ... Anyway... Happy new year!

I'll give it a go MaryBeth (despite missing the first two days of this year already!) this will be year 3 and last year I sometimes posted only one pic a month and sometimes almost felt guilty, besides which somebody needs to be here to keep an eye on Sean :) @seanoneill
