When i browse the homepage and see my friends photos, i can usually tell who has taken the shot before the name scrolls up.
Whether it be the genre , the post processing technique, the colours, the subject, the light or none of the above, perhaps just the connection between photo and viewer.
It always amazes me. We use similar equipment, photograph similar subjects, but we all have our style, we are all different.
That's the beauty of photography, and why we all love it. We paint with light we paint our feelings.
Wow that was quite a deep thought . Dunno where that came from on a thursday lunch time :-)
We all have our own unique voice, which can take some time to come out. I think we go through the 'bucket list', trying to emulate our favorite artists, follow trends until we eventually become more comfortable in our own photographer skins and our voice shines through.
Just my rambling thoughts ;)
Glad you posted this, because I'd been thinking along the same lines. I've recently taken a little break due to moving, but when I get back online, it's like seeing old friends again because I recognize the styles of many of the people I follow. I love sharing their views of the world....
It's true, a few people have a really recognisable style. I also get that remark sometimes, but only in my food shots. I guess I haven't found 'my style' yet. It would be interesting to try to define our style. In a few words. But I guess that's difficult. Maybe it's easier for someone else to see than to see it ourselves?
Creativity is what photography is about. I admit that I am tired of seeing the same image from everyone of some places (i.e. Multnomah Falls; Columbia Gorge from the Women's Fourm; anything from Crown Point) and I am sure that all areas of the world have those places. However, there are those few images of these places that are different and it is those that catch my eye. When I go to thesse places I try to do something different in camera and/or in PP. I suspect that if we all took the same image within 100 yeard of each other at the same time with camera on auto, the images would be so similar that for practical purposes there is no difference. This where individual creative preferences come to light. What element of the scene is most appealing to me and how do I want to show it's uniqueness?
What is fun is to watch when a certain subject matter catches fire like bees did this past summer. You watch each person bring their style to the subject.
Interesting post: I feel that some folk have a narrow range of subject matter so their shots are easy to identify but others have their own distinctive style which is perhaps hard to describe but easy to recognise.
@sparkle ahhh juliette, nice to see you here :-)
I love your transport hub photos, i am sure i could spot a your excellent shots , you have great style :-)
I've been absent from 365 for a while and I'm noticing that some folks whom I've followed before are surprising me with their evolving styles and subject matter. I love seeing the growth! Personally, I'm not sure if I have a style of my own; there are so many different things I like to shoot!
I also love watching new folk on here develop their photography!
Other people have also said that to me - guess you don't notice your own progress so much!
@quietpurplehaze I do too! Mine is ever evolving, but I have had people say "I knew that was yours when I saw it." I think others see the trends better than I do sometimes. I do know that I have become quite fond of abstracts now and if you asked me mid first year, I would not have even had a clue! This place is such a wonderful place to experiment and grow.
