@archaeofrog Katie- this is a great idea! I have no clue as to how to post my thumbnails though!! I've checked in on quite a few over the month and they all look fantastic. I could picture in my head that it would look really cool, but I was surprised at HOW cool they all turned out! I'm so glad everyone enjoyed it. It was a great experience for me too. Congratulations on a challenge well done!!
here's mine. thank you, dixie @pandorasecho for the shout out.
ann @olivetreeann do a print screen of your screen with the february calendar on view, then paste it on any program you have, your computer should have a 'paint' program. save it as a .jpg file then trim it in ribbet or ipiccy or the program you normally use. let me know if you can't do it, i'll make a capture of your calendar.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki- I did take a picture of it with my camera just now and will post it tomorrow (since it fits with the Me March challenge of the day!). I'm going to try your way too. Your calendar looks great! Actually they all look great! I knew they would look pretty cool when I came up with this idea, but I had know idea just HOW cool they really would look. I'm so glad everyone enjoyed it as much as they did!
@northy Your calendar looks great Northy! lol I had thought about a flash of green calendar! Then Alia came up with her challenge and I really was ready to do some color again. But I do think I'll do at least something with selective coloring that day and perhaps sandwich it with sepia or b/w. Hmmmm.... Great job on Flash of Red!!
@archaeofrog I was thinking of a print all patched together of screen shots of each calendar view. Really I would take the screen shots and drag into iPhoto and crop then open them all on my desktop as previews and line them up and make another screen shot
So, I went back and realized that I didn't follow the project "to the t" but ah well. It still was fun. LOL! Plus, I saw that many people made it their own.
@archaeofrog - great idea to do this Katie. Very cool to see everyone's b&w months - with just a touch of red.
Here's mine:
I enjoyed it but am happy to get some colour back.
These look brilliant!! Well done everyone - what stunning views. The flash of red really sets off the B&W. Just love it when the monthly view makes a pattern of its own - and these are cracking! =)
@annaruth Close enough Anna! We all tweak things to our liking here and that's ok!! Your project, your rules, right? But who can argue with that- your calendar looks great!!
I loved the idea of Flash of Red. I knew right from the start what my 'Flash' was going to be. Thank you for setting up the challenge. I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I'm now looking forward to a colourful March! ;)
@olivetreeann thanks! Yeah, I forgot there was a theme for each week and just thought "okay, black and white photos all month with one that is mostly red for the 14th." But somehow I still stuck to the theme pretty closely (not to the t but eh!) LOL!
@annaruth It looks fine the way it is! Sometimes the weekly themes just help people who've never shot in b/w before to know what to shoot. You are a well-seasoned b/w photographer though!
@pinelakechic I took a screen shot of my thumbnail and then cropped it and uploaded it as a jpg. You could also post a link to your thumbnail, if that's easier, I suppose.
@olivetreeann
It got a bit hard to stick with the b and w when I would get a pic that was not good in b and w that I I wanted in my main album. But I did stick to it and it was worth it. Thanks, Ann for the cool challenge!
If you'd like to see a lengthy explanation as to why this is so small- check it out on my 2nd album on Feb. 2. Otherwise get out the microscope and find the flash of red!
@archaeofrog I'm not sure what or why I couldn't do this. I tried taking it from 365 and putting it into my computer. It just wouldn't let me copy/paste or "save image as". Vikki then sent it to me, but when I tried to down load it into the computer it would not let me put it into my photo program. Crazy!!
@kaesebiscuit I'm not sure what I'm doing in September except that I committed to one week of Alia's challenge and I'm not home right now to even check up on that!! Could you plan one for November- that might be better for me.
Actually, Ann and @taffy and I were talking about doing this again in February but also combining it with another book club focusing on black and white photography.
Further back in this thread was a mention of possible select coloring September. I thought that was why this was up again. No? I keep thinking of doing mostly black and white but one band of horizontal and one of vertical being in color panoramic shots that would show up in Calandar view.
I am on the road right now and my head is in grandchild land! I'm more likely to think more clearly about this on Tuesday when I settled at home. I had forgotten about the thought of doing this again in September. But I haven't even started on my September shots, and I like Dixie's idea. So, go ahead and start it up @kaesebiscuit and I'll do my best to catch up!
@olivetreeann@pandorasecho@archaeofrog@northy I just threw it out there as a possibility since it was the beginning of a month and I'd already started out with a b&w. I'm quite happy to wait for February, if it's already planned.
I think now I'm following the sep13words but I will try to write up my panoramic cross idea for an upcoming month and give people a chance to think about it. It would mean deciding to shoot some pictures at the start but post them through the whole month or trying to get back and line up the scene each week.
@kaesebiscuit@pandorasecho Finally home and realizing I'll be filling in quite a few photos! But I like the idea of putting something together for November- so let's work on that. I don't know if I'll be able to do a panorama but as long as we give people the choice of going either way that gives everyone more freedom. Actually, it might be fun to take the panorama from your front door and call it "The Street Where I Live" or something like that. Maybe we could do a month of weekly themes- one week of "Mysterious Black and Whites", a one week panorama and see what else we come up with. I still have some reading to finish in Freeman's book, maybe that will inspire me. What do you two think?
@olivetreeann@kaesebiscuit what I was thinking is combining what I did last Sept http://365project.org/pandorasecho/365/2012-09
in the redwoods
and last october in my yard http://365project.org/pandorasecho/365/2012-10
of a vertical panorama,
with what I did at a beach in August of 2013 http://365project.org/pandorasecho/365/2012-08
with a horizontal, but it has to be somewhere pretty tall and wide to be able to pan the camera that much and get anything, not every yard would work well but maybe everyone has favorite location that would, maybe "Where my heart lives"?
then I was thinking of the 4 corners that wouldn't be involved having only B&W or a monochrome like sepia or blues
@pandorasecho I remember the redwood and the beach really well. Unfortunately the trees in my back yard pale in comparison to a redwood! They'd last for about 3 days! There's no beautiful beach to make a panorama of here unless you count the edge of the Delaware River but I might not be able to get there everyday. It's probably best to just give the assignment and let people shoot the pictures as they see fit- I was just trying to think of something that might be universal and easy for any photographer to do. A street scene (or the view from my door) seemed to be a possibility.
I am also laughing at myself because I've been talking about November as if it's October when in reality next month is October. I guess my "Sometimers" is acting up again! October 1 is a Tuesday. I don't think we'll have four even corners- but it will just take a little figuring as to how to make the corners stand out. That would look pretty interesting.
Of course if we wanted to do the "splash of color" idea, we could look up some of those off-beat special holidays to feature that occur mid-month (like National Sandwich Day- which I'm sure exists but in might not officially be in October).
@pandorasecho I do like your cross idea. I had thought of doing a Swiss flag, but it doesn't have any real emotional significance to me, it's just where I live. And a British one would be wayyyy too complicated! I really like your panorama idea as something to take (or just to post) over a period of days. That's really a nice twist, and I may have just the subject for one, so thanks for the idea :)
@olivetreeann The thing I am thinking of doing a panorama of isn't really "panoramic", so maybe you are thinking on too large a scale? Even though what I'm thinking of is reasonably large, it would be possible to even do a selfie in panoramic style, given the right focal length. Heck, if you have a macro lens, a long leaf with a caterpillar on it might be interesting.
I've been looking at the October calendar and thinking about panoramas and here's a thought/idea. Now, if I'm understanding and remembering Dixie's shots from a while back, the panorama is comprised of individual shots that when viewed in the calendar form make one giant photo either horizontally or vertically depending on your subject matter (i.e. horizontal for a landscape vs. vertical for a tree). The 365 calendar begins the week on Sunday and goes to Saturday, therefore the first row vertically are all shots taken on Sunday. October begins on a Tuesday, so if you wanted to do a panorama the first week, it would span from Tuesday, October 1 to Saturday, October 5. If you wanted to do a vertical panorama the pictures would be taken on Sundays, 6, 13,20, and 27 OR Saturdays 5, 12, 19 and 26. If you wanted to take a panorama on the final week of October, those days are Sunday, October 27 to Thursday, October 31. Now, if you really wanted to get fancy (and perhaps go insane as well), you could do a dual panorama by taking a shot that could go both vertically and horizontally and link them in the "corners" of the month. That is, you could take a shot that has both a vertical and horizontal element which pivots on either October 5th or October 27th depending on which way your subject goes. If you really wanted to go above and beyond that, you could do the "corner" panoramas in color, and every shot on the interior of the month in b/w (or vice versa). OR the panoramas could be in b/w and the interior orange. This would certainly be a challenge for the seriously insane, but the calendar view at the end of the month would be awesome I think! Something like this probably needs to be presented with enough time to seriously set up the panorama shots. I don't know- this may be too complicated. Let me know what you think.
Then any shots not included in the panoramic shots, either Black & White or Monochrome, but let people choose how they want to spread the columns or rows

This was my first themed month and I love how it turned out. I found I rather like b&w more than I thought I would.
I'd love a poster of all these as a quilt
@pandorasecho Lots of great shots! How would you make a quilt?

@northy So many great shots - love how you do the black blacks and the white whites.
@tara11 Fabulous shots and love the red candle.

Thanks so much @olivetreeann Ann for putting this on!! It was perfect to keep me going :)

Sorry it's so small!

@olivetreeann
A agree though, totally cool. I'm really surprised at @northy as it goes. You managed to get some colour in an image, northy?!? *runs away*
PS - actually the most difficult aspect to wrap my mind around was selective colour - at least it want candy floss pink!
I'm going to do a flash of black in February, when everywhere is covered in snow...
Actually, Ann and @taffy and I were talking about doing this again in February but also combining it with another book club focusing on black and white photography.
