Hi everyone
Sorry for the slight delay in getting this post up. Its hard to believe but another two weeks have passed and the b&w urban / city scapes has come to an end. Looking at the tag, there were 34 photos posted for this theme, so maybe it didn’t appeal to everyone, or it was harder to a achieve, it would be great to have feedback on what you thought. The new theme starts today (details below). As I did last time I thought that I would combine the new b&w theme with a 'favourite fav’ thread.
Post your favourite fav from the urban / city scapes
So, why not find your favourite B&W urban / city scapes shot posted for the last fortnight (tagged bw-fn2016-2) and share it in this thread. It will be fantastic to see what has everyone has fav'd over the two weeks.
New theme
Bringing the focus down from the broad to the detailed, the next b&w theme will focus on PATTERNS AND TEXTURE. Once again, there is a slight overlap with the 52 week challenge of texture which started on the 29th April. Absolutely everyone is free to join in and you can take photos in this timescale or use old ones.
A little about patterns and texture in b&w from an article on the web:
Pattern
In colour photos, patterns often go unnoticed because the colors draw all the attention away from them. However, black and white photographs give you a much better chance of capturing interesting patterns; the distraction of color is no longer present, giving subtle patterns the chance to take shape and emerge.
Texture
Texture is a crucial element in black and white imagery. Textures provide us with tonal contrast and relay depth to the viewer. Without textures, you would simply have a smooth flat surface showing some shade of gray, but with texture we have something interesting and inciting to view. Try combining a variety of textures, like a glossy pen next to a textured sheet of paper sitting on a dirty desk. The right textures combined together will help to add interest and appeal to your photograph.
If you want to post your photo for the 52 week challenge as well, you can see the thread and tags here: http://365project.org/discuss/general/27013/fifty-two-week-challenge-let-s-do-it-together
The tag will be bw-fn2016-3 The fortnight will run Sunday 1st May - Saturday 14th May
The next theme will be posted on Sunday 15th May.
You can see the photos for the challenge here: bw-fn2016-3
I have tagged people who have asked to be tagged and who have posted photos for the last fortnight. Please let me know if you want to be added to the tag list or share any other thoughts in this thread!
This sounds great, love the paragraphs from the article you posted, sounds like a really helpful way to start thinking about this :) Looking forward to seeing everyone's photos and having a go!
This from @joysabin was my favourite from this challenge, it is a great photo and really captures an urban feeling for me.
As far as feedback on the challenge, I just wasn't able to get somewhere that felt "urban" to me during the challenge period...the best I could manage was "suburban" and that didn't cut it for me but, just cause I couldn't do it in this time frame, doesn't mean that it wasn't a good challenge for others. I think we have to accept that not every challenge will fit every photographer and just be willing to pass on some and participate in the ones that do fit our circumstances.

Thank you so much Deb! I really enjoyed this theme... It was not easy to achieve and for this reason I found it even more stimulating! :)
It was a great idea for a challenge. I don't live in a city, and was recovering from knee surgery so my bad... just didn't make it to the city. I could relate to the person on 52 Week Challenge that posted a picture by a river with 2 tents which as close to 'Urban" he was that week. Lol. Lovely work here from everyone!
@joysabin To get the pic to appear here, go to the photo and click on the ellipse or three dots right under the picture by the comments and favs numbers. Copy what is in the Embed Code box and paste it here. :)
@frappa77 I agree that one was my favourite too. nice job @tracys
Didn't manage to tag one this time, which I'm disappointed about because I was really interested in it but there were some nice shots by everyone else. Am determined to get something into the patterns and textures.
I really liked this theme Debs, but forgot about it in my daily rush. And urbanscapes make such great b&w too.
