I spent a fantastic morning at the National Aviary today, but I left empty-handed. I didn’t take any pictures! I do want to commemorate this wonderful day, so I’m filling in with an image I took there recently of a Blue-bellied Roller. I love the look of this bird!
Named for its blue belly and twisting and turning flight, this brilliant blue beauty with buffy head hangs out in the Wetlands exhibit and loves to perch on this branch and watch the goings on below. What’s normally going on below is me snapping happily away, photo after photo. Sexes are similar, so I don't know if this is a he or a she; but I do know that this bird is not camera shy!
@cejaanderson Thank you for your kind words and fav, Jane! I love taking pictures in the Wetlands exhibit, partly because of the pretty lighting in there.
@jgpittenger Thanks, Jane; and you are right...I did leave with plenty of beautiful sights! I just love it there. The birds are so colorful, so active, so noisy in a good way...it's pure joy to visit!
@shirleybankfarm Thanks, Shirley! I do feel lucky every time I get to photograph it. We are lucky to have the National Aviary nearby. It is filled to the brim with such beautiful birds!
