I’m grateful to be able to spend some peaceful time cross-stitching today. We’re in the process of converting our grown son’s room into a guest room, and I searched for months for a pretty pattern to stitch for the new space. Since the room will be used primarily for overnight guests to sleep in, I thought the Serenity Prayer would be appropriate. When I found this pattern, I was surprised to see that there was more to the prayer than just the first verse that I had been familiar with for years. I have many more stitches to make; but eventually, the finished work will be framed and hung above the bed.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.
@lhart Thank you, Lynne! It's a very big piece, and I'm really excited about it! The verse has a variety of flowers around it; but surprisingly, there are only two colors (pine green...which looks black in this photo...and plum) in the entire project.
This is a great photo, and I've always liked the prayer--not just to know but to follow. As I get older, I am more accepting of things that I can't change. You are very skilled!
@cejaanderson Thank you, Jane! I like the prayer very much; and I've grown more accepting with age, too. I'm very excited to stitch this pattern. The finished work will be quite large, especially with some matting and a pretty frame; so I think it will fit perfectly above the bed.
Beautiful - both the shot and the verse. It will be the perfect addition to a guest room. Look forward to seeing the framed edition when it's finished. I use to cross-stitch a bunch when I taught school - in fact, had a dad post a thank you on my FB page last week for a piece I'd done for his son 30 years ago that he'd saved. Would love to get back into it - too much computer time and not enough relaxing - need to rearrange my priorities!
@milaniet Thank you so much! I will definitely post a photo of the finished, framed piece, although that might be quite some time from now as the pattern is quite large. How thoughtful of that father who posted a thank you on your FB page, and how thoughtful of you to have made the piece for his son 30 years ago! I love many different forms of needlework, but cross-stich is my favorite; and I'm very excited to be working on this beautiful prayer.
