Two shelves in the cupboard to the right of the big sink hold an assortment of mugs. A few are mass-produced designs bearing our initials or the names of favorite vacation spots. Most are handmade treasures that feel good in our hands as we imagine the potter working with the clay and the glazes. Some were received as gifts and bring to mind the kindness of the giver while others were thoughtfully chosen by my husband and me.
Each morning, the mug that suits the mood is carefully chosen and enjoyed filled with piping hot coffee or tea. This morning had me reaching for this one, handmade by a favorite Pennsylvania potter and perfect for a chilly October morning. It’s a simple ritual, for sure, but one that I delight in!
I like viewing this image best on the black background.
How about that, to the right of my sink is a cupboard with my special coffee mugs with the very same stories to them (gifts from family, or chosen myself because of a special occasion). I like your crow and pumpkin one — bet it feels especially comfortable on these autumn mornings.
@lyndemc What a coincidence! Isn't it fun to choose a mug to suit your mood each morning? The potter laid the thick, clay pumpkin and crow right on to her generously-sized mug, creating this chunky, heavy design that I love. Thank you so much for commenting!
@milaniet Thank you, Milanie! Yes, each mug does bring happy memories. I really appreciate your well wishes. Healing is a slow process, but I'm hopeful that I'm heading in the right direction.
@kategoring Thank you for stopping by and commenting, Kate! I really like the unique style of this potter. How fun that you did pottery for a while. My daughter did, too; and she really enjoyed it. I'm always drawn to handmade mugs.
@jgpittenger Thanks so much, Jane! I love to start my day by reading the daily devotion from this book while enjoying my tea, and the "mug of the day" adds to the joy. :-)
