As always, we heard the Baltimore orioles before we saw them. Every Spring, we know they’re back when their unmistakable, clear, whistling songs rise from the treetops behind the porch swing; and they arrive at the feeder a day or two later. I set out oranges in anticipation, and we watch red-bellied woodpeckers enjoy the juicy treats in peace before the orioles show up and provide some competition. What a thrill to welcome these flying sunsets back to the hill each year where they’ll raise their families before taking off for their wintering grounds once again!
Super shot! We hear them in the treetops too but they never come down. The one time I put up a feeder for them, the hummingbirds made better use of it- and off course the squirrels took a shot at it too!
What a wonderful shot of him - he's definitely not easy to catch - like you, I can hear them a lot better than I can see them - one season they came to the oriole feeder but not since. Their markings are so pretty.
