Half the family partake of a two hour karate extravaganza on Sunday lunchtimes so we take ourselves out on Sunday evenings about once a month (so that I don't throw a big wobbly about family Sunday lunches being ruined). Today we had plans for one such event but first Nigel and I tramped through squelchy fields for two hours with the dog. As usual we 'tried a new route' which ended up at a dead end across a military rifle range and although we've ploughed across 'deeper than expected' rivers before now to avoid doubling back we didn't fancy getting shot. Anyway as we eventually arrived back at the car park we were approached by a man waving a key. 'Is that your car?' he said, 'It's locked in till tomorrow morning at 9.30'. Sunday dinner was beginning to recede down a dark tunnel but after copious amounts of bowing and scraping (and restraint on my part - it's all very well having a small sign on a gate which was wide open) he relented and unlocked it for us. So I had a choice of photos - a picture of a hedge which a wren had just flown out of, or the cosy interior of d'Arry's restaurant which we appreciated all the more for the fact that we could still have been walking home.
from the description of your walk experience I'm guessing you could have been somewhere near Coton. I've seen the man with the keys leaping into action before!
@helenmoss We nearly had to call in to beg a lift home assuming a taxi wouldn't want the dog! To be fair he was trying to be really mean but couldn't quite sustain it after his wife (who was looking decidely unimpressed with us) had gone home.
