Witch hazel by judithg

Witch hazel

I took Monty to Anglesey Abbey today. He isn't allowed in the gardens but there is a nice walk along the lode running alongside it. It was damp and darkish but I followed a kingfisher flashing along the length of the river while Monty dived off down rabbit holes. The Abbey has a fantastic winter garden so I nipped in after our walk with a few shots in mind. This isn't what I was thinking of at all but I liked it. It's witch hazel with red dogwood branches in front. It doesn't smell like the stuff you buy in bottles (well to be fair I didn't really sniff it and I'm not sure anybody still buys it) but there was a really fantastic smell in the garden paths - miniature box according to the head gardener -just green really and I didn't suspect it was the source of a really delicious fragrance.
beautiful picture Judith, love it

That's just lovely, Judith! It's nice to see something blooming in the northern hemisphere.
