the rest of us need umbrellas. Chucked it down this morning and half the afternoon - poor Rachel has been on the river punting all day. We ventured on to the market to find a second hand racing bike for Adam. We've discovered this week that they are THE object of desire for youth this summer and tricky to track down. The second hand bike man wasn't there but the new bike man offered to sell us his bike - a refurb'ed 1980 Raleigh from the days they were handbuilt in Nottingham. I suspect it cost more than the original new version (I wish I'd kept mine) but I have happy boy with an empty bank account - and no he does not want mudguards or pannier carrier or anything to actually make it practical....but he will be doing some tinkering.
The umbrella stall was very popular - and I've added some 'space shuttle' sparkle from Picnik. Really really chuffed with the response to yesterday's pic - thanks!!
My first umbrella was one of these mushroom things! I loved it...I was about 5 years old and mom would not get me one until she found one with a plastic ball safety tip. You'd put your head up in that sweet vinyl smell and see the world through trickles of rain. I loved it! My husband has a bike like that...has not been on it in years but won't sell it! Says he's "not ready yet." Haha
Great shot Judith and a great commentary. Today's weather has been truly apalling! Although I am following you, your photos seemed to get lost in the mix. You have had 2 on the pop page and I never saw them til then!! And I love your teasel shot...great title. Ours in the garden look like that.....great in the winter for encouraging the goldfinches!
@espyetta Well he's right - they are going up in value not down!! Sadly I expect vintage plastic umbrellas only have sentimental value!! I like that sort - they don't poke you in the eye...
@Cherrill Thanks Cherrill - I miss shots too - I think sometimes they jump about on the dashboard for some reason - and everybody's only got a finite amount of time to go hunting!
great shot - love the feel to this - the weather has been dreadful has it not? I managed to get a picture in the sun whilst it was out for ten minutes earlier - I've just looked out of the window and it is pouring down again - happy smmer days!!
I have one of these brollies in the attic, they are great if you want to watch things in the rain which I don't any more thank you !! Lovely shot with the beautiful flowers sort of sitting on the top of them! If only we knew what was going to be popular in the future! My son-in-law has lots of bikes & he loves cycling... you can never have too many bicycles !!
love the picture and the commentary. Bikes have got very expensive suddenly. I've got to replace mine (stolen earlier this year) and the cost has doubled in about 3 or 4 years.
Great shot. You are funny with that quote. I had Julie translate as I do not know chuffed, or punt, or so many terms. It makes it more fun to read your commentary. thx for your nice comments and no I didn't get shagged by any seabirds this trip! ;-)
Sounds like the rain can't dampen Adam's spirits now that he has that bike in his possession! Good shot to illustrate your wet weather. Was watching the golfers carry on in the challenging weather on the British Open yesterday.
@sparkle I think sometimes people 'drop off' your list - I've had to add people back in before. In fact about 15 followers dropped off my list last week - which is fine - we can all have a change of scene but it was odd that so many went overnight - I thought I must have posted a really dodgy pic! I'd better check I haven't lost anybody!!
Great shot and what a noble mission. If it is a special products Raleigh racing bike it would have cost a lot more than that in real terms. My 1975 Continental cost £45 which was a lot of money then that was not a RSP bike I have a 90's equinox and that is a great bike I'd buy another one if I ever saw one - I still have mine it has done tens of thousands of miles and I still love riding it ;-) If it is 531 tubing or above you have got a good bargain!
@whippeteer Oooh - I'd better have a closer look! I don't know if it's anything special but apparently it goes fast - not really a selling point for a mother....
I am in the same fix as Cherrill mentioned...I seem to be missing photos of people I follow and normally like their pix and comment on them. I found your teasel on the pop page andxwgen I found it was you, I was surprised that I hadn't seen it yet! And yes, I'm glad to see that you think the photots jump around on the homepage....I'd been thinking that, after scrolling through a few times, a few have suddenly appeared in the mix. Anyway, loved your story and the umbrellas look cool.
A great Cambridge shot! I love those umbrellas, I don't think we have them in Germany. But then again, it doesn't rain that much there ;). I know Cambridge is fairly dry but the last few weeks I'm beginning to doubt that ;). Nice editing on this shot!
